I had been here before as a volunteer back in July of 2012, yet this time I would come as the group "leader" of a small gaggle of do gooders, yet the almost constant together time with the kids and efforts ensured a departure from the usual gringo voluntourist endeavor.
We spent just over two weeks with the group, teaching english, organizing activities, going on small excursions around the area with the kids, and helping where we could.
The crunch of yellow leaves beneath my feet was a welcome change from warm summer activities and the move to still-warm Barcelona.
We departed Ukraine much in the same way we arrived, being hurtled along by means of non-air conditioned van and tossed on the other side of an eastern european border. But this was exactly our plan, to check out a new place (Satu Mare, Romania) and then catch a train to Budapest where we would recover for a couple days before heading back stateside.
Satu Mare above and to the right with photos taken in Budapest below. Budapest is always fun to walk around, but be warned about any summer galavants, as it is really hot and muggy.
